about
“Sophie Noel is new on the scene but she is laying the foundations of love that will last with her first release, the Sisterly EP. The songs have been crafted out of strong relational bonds that have stood the test of time.”

Sophie Noel is a contemporary folk songwriter based in Dawson City, YT. Her melody-driven writing, described as up-close-and-personal dreamy country, tracks through jazz and Americana traditions. From these sonic footings it reaches up through sun-drenched West coast pop (Sophie marinated her music in Victoria, BC, before throwing it on the grill in Dawson City) to a dynamic stasis that is entirely her own. These intermingled influences can be heard represented in the form and instrumentation of standard folk lineage, and the chordal structure of jazz and bossa-nova. Lyrically, Sophie Noel’s writing shares territory with Adrienne Lenker of Big Thief, Angel Olsen, and Andy Shauf, due to its confessional nature and intimate imagery. Themes of vulnerability, coming of age, and relationships with time weave throughout.
Sophie Noel has supported artists such as Jennifer Castle and Marisa Anderson, and participated in the 2020 Songwriter Challenge as part of the Canadian Song Conference organized by Music PEI. Sophie self-released her first EP, Sisterly, on October 4th 2019.
